Effective use of jargon is vital to your professional communication skills.
Recently, we posted an article entitled "How to Use Jargon Without Sounding like a Jerk". Jargon, when used without thought, can be a major stumbling block to all of your communication. Frustrated, off-put, or lost audiences and conversation partners follow when you don't take the time to introduce the jargon being used. Not a good thing.
Channel 1 Creative Media made a great video that illustrates this idea perfectly. Watch as the participants in the safety meeting start to question and drift from the speaker's acronym filled talk. (Extra points for giving their speaker an, umm, less than useful body position...)
Do you struggle with discomfort when using jargon? Are you hesitant to define it to your waiting crowd? Have you been the folks around the table, trying desperately to understand what is going on? Watch the video, and then let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Many thanks to Channel 1 Creative Media for sharing the video!
